About Me
A local with passion
I am passionate about Ballymena - the town where I was born and where I have chosen to live.
I studied Irish History and Politics at Ulster University in Derry. Since then I have developed a keen interest in local history and how historical changes impact on the lives of ordinary people in an urban and a rural setting.
I have spent most of my working life in the trade union movement, initially in the public sector and more recently in education.
Outside of work I have years of experience working in the local community in the town, with a range of community and faith based organisations, developing strong connections with the people, local groups, and the rich built heritage of the area.
I have a keen interest in helping people get outdoors and to understand and appreciate their local environment. I have been a leader and coach, and currently Chairman, of Ballymena Runners Athletics Club, and have experience of leading groups of mixed ability runners on routes in town, and off road in forest trails and mountains. This has given me knowledge and experience that can be adapted for walkers of all abilities.
